Tori Darke, is one of the ten grand finalists to compete in the 30th Toyota Star Maker Grand Finals as Australia's oldest and most successful music talent search comes to a head in Tamworth on Sunday January 18.

A talented individual, Tori has been singing since the age of 3 with many accolades to her credit.

Most recently she has scored a hat-trick of wins taking out first prize in all three major up and coming talent country music competitions across Australia.
*2007 Champion of the Australian Country Talents Search (ACTS) previously won by both Felicity Urquart and Travis Collins.
*2008 CCMA Junior Champion for best Young Talent
*2008 Toyota "Maton" Talent Search winner at the Toyota National Gympie Muster and as part of her prize Tori will head to Canada as the Australian Ambassador at the Merritt Mountain Country Music Festival in July 2009.
Concentrating on her songwriting for the past year has certainly paid off for this young artist when she was recently presented with the Queensland Champion of Champion Songwriters Award for 2008. Tori has set her sights on international recognition as a singer/songwriter and recording artist. "Songwriting in the beginning did not come easily for me and then one day the penny dropped and I found myself wanting to write more and more. Co-writing has been a lot of fun and I have now written with some of Australia's best".
Graduating in July 2008 from the Camerata Junior College of Country Music after winning not one but two Scholarships to the College Tori will now head to Tamworth to attend the CMAA Senior College of Country Music after receiving a further Scholarship with her Gympie Muster win.
"I have uniqueness to my voice and a style becoming of the person I am. I have a contemporary country/rock flavour but I have a passion for a beautiful ballad".

Reflecting back over the past year, Tori has performed up and down the east coast of Australia as she continues to hone her skills in the country music industry and live the dream that she is so deserving of.

With regular gigs and radio interviews Tori is well and truly creating her own niche in the country music industry.
"My most exciting time was working with Simon Johnson on my debut EP. Simon puts a new dimension on the word recording.his work is amazing and I am so glad to have had this opportunity for him to work with me on my debut EP.

Many great young artists have had their careers launched due to not necessarily winning, but merely participating in Toyota Star Maker.

Tori is looking forward to giving this spring board a good bounce.

Tori’s Canada Trip

TORI’S DARKE WAS ONE OF THE OPENING ACTS FOR
KENNY CHESNEY AT MOUNTAINFEST - CANADA

Our arrival into Canada was in the very early hours of Wednesday morning 1st July so we were pretty exhausted by the time we arrived into Vancouver and then to our hotel, but with a good nights sleep we were refreshed and ready to go.

Our first day was spent on the beautiful island of Victoria where we were ferried over to the island to visit the beautiful “Butchart Gardens” which were absolutely spectacular. A boat ride around the bay, and a beautiful seafood meal by the harbour as we watched the sun set around 10.30pm. Day 2 was a full day’s drive through the Rocky Mountains as we headed for a little town called Kelowna where we would stop for the night before heading off on another 6hrs drive through the Rockies to Banff the following morning. The trip through the Rockies was nothing but spectacular with beautiful sceneries and magnificent views of snow capped mountains with every bend of the road, and the weather changing the further we traveled into the Rockies. Banff is a quaint little town full of chalet’s, gift stores and restaurants, surrounded off course by the beautiful Rocky Mountains, ski fields and lakes. Two of the lakes we visited were Lake Louise and Lake Moraine before we hopped on the snow mobile to explore the Attabaska Glacier which was just amazing, but very cold…….

The first week of our holiday came and went so fast and it was time to head back through the Rockies for Merritt Mountain to attend the country music festival, which was our main reason for coming to Canada.

The town of Merritt is set in a desert like valley, so the temperatures are normally quite high, however the day we arrived was quite windy and cold and we were really in need of some sunny weather. We headed out to Merritt Mountain where ‘Mountainfest’ has been held for the past 17yrs to be greeted by Don Adams and his amazing staff who immediately took control and showed us around the festival, chatting to us about previous artists such as Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Martina McBride, Brookes & Dunn and the Dixie Chicks that have attended the festival in past years and we were made to feel extremely welcome.
Day one of the festival was a little quite as most of the fans did not head into the festival until the Friday due to work commitments, but by Friday the Buses, Trucks, Camper Vans and Artists busses came rolling in and the sunny weather came with them.
Throughout the festival there was some amazing artists performing and I was very excited to have met Doc Walker and some of Kenny Chesneys band members as well as having a photo and a chat with Johnny Reed and Pam Tilllis.

My own performances were at the Activity Stage which was in the centre of everything and was decked out with Australian flags and names of cities throughout Australia. The Canadians certainly had a way of making us Aussies feel at home. The Activity stage was a buzz throughout the day and included a 2 hr boot camp on both Friday & Saturday organized by SOCAM with writers, producers and legal representatives who were more than happy to share their knowledge and experiences.
Once Boot Camp was over it was time for my own performance and I was excited to see that the producers and song writers that I had been chatting with chose to hang around for my performance . One of the producers approached me afterwards and gave me a contact to co-write with when I arrived in Nashville, which was very exciting . My week kept getting better and bertter as I was then asked to perform on the Main Stage in the middle of town prior to Jetty Road and Johnny Reid’s Walk Of Stars and conference chat.
My biggest surprise came when I was asked to perform on Main Stage as one of the opening acts for Kenny Chesney.

Hi Everyone,
The first half of the year has come and gone so quickly.  With many hours of driving and off course my awesome overseas Tour through Canada, Nashville & LA...

Since arriving back home my month finished off with a gig at  Rooty Hill RSL, which is always a great night, Hosted by Cameron Syrett from Cool Country Radio,  then the following night I was off to Seaforth Bowling Club with John Clements and the Gordon Station Band.

On August 2nd I performed at the Penrith RSL Club and was so excited to have had James Gillard play for me, along with Mal Lancaster and a young up and coming guitarist Glen Harrison which was just great.
My next gig was a song writer’s night at the Unity Hotel in Balmain which was very interesting to be performing with other great song writers from different genres.

On August 8th I traveled to Bateman Bay Soldiers Club to perform as a guest artist for The Saddles hosted by Donna Boyd – other special guest artists were Matt Frost and Liana Rose, two very talented artists.   Wow! A winner was found, Anja Nissen aged 13 with a big voice and a big future ahead of her.

The following day I performed at the Macquarie Arms Hotel at Windsor and what a fun day we had.  The weather was fantastic and the crowds just kept coming.

My exciting news is I have just been nominated as a Finalist in the Independent Artist of the Year for the Female Rising Star Award which will be judged in Mildura on 3rd October.

My new single You Better Run will be released by NFS Publicity on 24th August and I start shooting my video clip this weekend.  I am very excited and I know Duncan Toombs will do another awesome job.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Radio DJ’s who supported by debut single CRAWL and I hope you will enjoy my 2nd single You Better Run out soon.

A very big thank you to all my Family and Fans who have been so supportive.

I look forward to catching up with you all again soon…..

Hello again to all my friends and fans

Some of my young fans at Gympie.

The last two months has gone so fast and I am very excited to tell you that my 2nd single "You Better Run" has now been released to radio and its accompanying video clip will be up on CMC as of today. As most of you know I had an awesome time in Canada & Nashville but found it a little hard to settle back in after arriving home at the end of July, but with a couple of busy months ahead of me I didn't have a lot of time to think about it.

August started off with the filming of my new video clip which was shot in 3 difference locations around the Camden & Razorback areas, our first location was Cawdor, a little town just out of Camden where we found an old farm slab hut built in the early 1800's. The owners Kristen & Craig were thrilled that we wanted to use their property and Craig actually ended up played my dad and did a great job as the professional actor we booked did not show.

Me with my Band at the filming of "You Better Run"

After taking a short break for lunch we headed up the mountain to our 2nd location at Razorback to an old timber shearing shed where we filmed all the band scenes with the production team, band and extra's having lots of laughs and re-shoots before we finally got it right. Our final shoot was on the Sunday morning where we had some of my good friends come and be 'extras' and I can't thank them enough, It was a busy two days and a lot of work but our producer Duncan Toombs did a great job and I am incredibly pleased with the finished product.

Click above to checkout the making of "You Better Run" video clip.

The filming weekend was a busy weekend for me as I also had to rush off to my regular gig at Menangle House on the Sunday afternoon as I really love playing here, the venue is a beautiful restaurant set on 7 acres with an old dairy farm, beautiful old sandstone buildings and the staff are always fantastic with great local crowds, my good friend Caitlin Harnett helped me out with a couple of sets as I was also to perform at Campbelltown RSL later in the afternoon for a Prostate Cancer Fundraiser, run by 2MCR with an amazing line up featuring Adam Harvey, Tamara Stewart, Camile & Stuie French, Victoria Baillie and Amber Lawrence just to name a few, the fundraiser raised over $6,000 for Prostate Cancer research.

On 19th August I spend the day at the ABC Studio's in Sydney recording 4 acoustic tracks off my Debut EP which are now up on the ABC Country website (www.abccountry.net.au) as well as my brand new website www.toridarke.com under videos.

A couple of days later I performed at the "Cancer For Life" Concert which was held at St. Mary's Leagues Club with again another amazing line up featuring Kelly Hope, Tamara Stewart, Victoria Baillie, Gemma Luxton and Jonah's Road, that fundraiser raised a total of $12,600 for cancer research.

After taking a few relaxing days off after a busy couple of weeks we headed off to QLD for the National Gympie Muster, a festival that I would recommend everyone visit, I spent the first morning (Friday) with a wonderful TV crew from "Country Matters" doing a TV spot covering what the Muster meant to me and the involvement & excitement of what the Muster has to offer, the interview went for about 45mins and we had a lot of fun with the guys on the show which has since been aired to TV.

Filming with the "Country Matters" TV show in Gympie.

This year's Muster was extra special to me as I perform not only on The Muster Club Stage but also on Main Stage which was an amazing experience with a great audience and to have so many people come to see me in the signing tent afterwards to buy my CD and get signatures was just mind blowing, it was a great honour to know that so many people loved my music. The one thing I love about Gympie is being able to catch up with all my good friends and that's exactly what I did :)

Signing autographs at the Gympie Muster.

After another great Muster we headed south west to a little place called Barmedman for the Barmedman Ute Show where I performed on the Friday and Saturday nights at the Barmedman Hotel and then got invited to be a guest judge for the Utes show on the Saturday afternoon. I had a great time checking out the awesome utes and learning about the passionate people who put so much work into their pride and joy (their Utes).... I must admit I was wishing I owned a few of them, they were so nice.

Performing at Barmedman Hotel.

This was my second year at Barmedman as I also performed at the show last year and had an absolute ball, at the end of the show it was time to do a lap of honour around the arena and I had the privilege of being the passenger in the Deni Ute Muster Ute with Ralph Clark the organizer of the Barmedman show and a great friend.

Behind the wheel of the Deni Ute Muster ute .

As I said earlier it has been a hectic couple of months but I have enjoyed it so much, my last trip away for the year was to the Mildura Country Music festival and I would have to say it has to be one of the best festivals I have attended, I did a total of 22 gigs over the 10 days with just about every venue booked out and CD sales exceptional, the audiences were great and so appreciative of the talent presented throughout the entire festival.

Saturday night was the Independent Artist Of The Year Awards and I was very proud to have been given the opportunity to perform alongside some of Australia's great Independent Artists at the Awards for 2009 of which I was also a Finalist in the Female Rising Star Category. A big congratulations to Lianna Rose who won Female Rising Star, and Jetty Road who pretty much scooped the pools and also named as Artist Of The Year, also a big congratulations to all of the other winners and finalists.

Well it is time for me to say cheerio for now and I would like to again take this opportunity to thank all the Radio DJ's who continue to support my music and I hope you enjoy my 2nd single 'You Better Run'. It is great to be back home for a while now, so until next time, Keep safe and well.
.

After an outstanding 2009, Country Music singer/songwriter Tori Darke continued to shine at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, winning the NSW NEW TALENT OF THE YEAR, GOLDEN MEDALION AWARD.(WARP – World Alliance for Radio Presenters).

“It has been an amazing Tamworth Festival for me this year. Performing onstage at the Entertainment Centre in the Grand Finals of both Toyota Star Maker and Telstra Road To Tamworth, with some of the industry’s highest regarded musicians was simply awesome.  Being named as a Top 5 Toyota Star Maker Grand Finalist and Runner-Up in the Telstra Road To Tamworth Songwriting Grand Final was an incredible honor.”

This was Tori’s busiest Tamworth Festival yet, with performances at The Maton Showcase, The Young Guns Concert, ladies of Country Concert plus her major performance to a packed house at the New Capital Theatre as support act for Melbourne based band Jetty Road. Tori finished off the festival by rocking the house out to a fantastic crowd at the Central Hotel.

The Australian College of Country Music and the Camerata School of Country Music have now merged to create the new CMAA Australian Academy of Country Music.

Having graduated from Camerata in 2008 and the Senior College in 2009, Tori was asked to speak with the NSW Premier Kristina Keneally after the announcement of a $33,000 funding for five scholarships to the new Academy, which was definitely a highlight. During their conversation, Ms Keneally asked Tori how she had benefited from her experiences at both Camerata and at the Senior College:

“It was inspirational to have attended both the Camerata College and the CMAA College of Country Music. Having access to and learning from some of the best in the industry, including Troy Cassar-Daley and Felicity Urquhart, who helped form the foundation to encourage young up-and-coming artists to enter the college, gave me the opportunity to be involved in Toyota Star Maker and Telstra Road To Tamworth. The educational structure of the program was a great learning curve, one which I have benefited from immensely”, says Tori.

In 2010, Tori plans to visit Nashville for more songwriting and pre-production work on her forthcoming debut album.

After visiting Ronald McDonald House Westmead in Sydney, up and coming country singer, 19 year old, Tori Darke was so touched she had to write a song to express how she felt. ‘Not My Time to Fly’ was created with friend and colleague Drew McAlister and then recorded by Tori.

The response to this heartfelt song was so strong she decided to release it on iTunes with all profits going to Ronald McDonald House Westmead, dedicating it to all the special children and their families.  The Charity was so inspired by Tori’s song they approached her with the offer of using ‘Not My Time to Fly’ as the theme song on their latest testimonial charity  DVD.
